The District of Columbia government is dedicated to the health and wellness of District employees and residents. The supply of safe blood can save the lives of those in need of blood transfusions. Donations of blood can improve the health of those who are battling chronic diseases, those who experience surgical complications, or those who are severely affected by natural disasters and accidents. To support the joint effort of the Office of the Attorney General (OAG), the D.C. Department of Human Resources (DCHR), the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Local 1403, and the American Red Cross, the District government is authorizing administrative leave for employees who donate blood.
Employees who participate in the Blood Drive, sponsored by OAG, DCHR, AFGE Local 1403, and the American Red Cross, shall be granted no more than two hours of administrative leave for this purpose. If an employee requires more than two hours of leave, the employee must request and be approved for annual leave, leave without pay, compensatory time off, or exempt time off, as appropriate.
OAG, DCHR, AFGE Local 1403, and the American Red Cross will host a Blood Drive in the Old Council Chambers, located at 441 4th Street, NW, on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
The provisions of this issuance apply to agencies under the Mayor’s personnel authority and those independent agencies that choose to adopt these provisions.
